The presentation of the restaurant and the food is equally attentive to detail, even during the lunch hour where they feature affordable specials. Crisp white tablecloths and folded napkins make for a welcome sight, even in the middle of the day. What makes for an even more welcome sight is the tasty and elegant food. I began my lunch with a spicy sweet and sour soup. Reminding me of a miso soup with a kick and a selection of add ins for a burst of flavor, the soup featurred a blend of healthy chunks of tofu, carrots and pineapples, I wasn’t quite prepared for the spice, but the overall effect is one that I couldn’t turn away from. The rolling sweetness nixed with a pleasant afterburn was a perfect hit on the cold and stormy day that I visited.Next, I was brought an appetizer of Vietnamese egg rolls. Small, fried rolls stuffed with meat and spices, the Vietnamese egg rolls are tasty and chewy-crisp, dipped in a thin, sweet sauce and served with an elegant garnish. The main course was split between two dishes, a lightly spicy red curry tofu and a rich and sweet coconut chicken. The red curry tofu was a particularly enjoyable treat. Originally under an inexplicable belief that the tofu was chicken ( though I couldn’t figure out how it was cut so uniformly ), I dove in and was surprised by the crisp and tender tofu. Normally, I don’t associate tofu with texture, but this was a great eye opener. With a texture a lot like a fluffy fried egg, the tofu was served in a spicy (but not devastating) curry sauce with peppers, mushrooms, carrots and onions. The creamy and rich coconut chicken was bathed in a sweet coconut sauce, served as medallions with a blend of mushrooms, carrots and peas. I’ve always enjoyed the variety of food that I’ve tried at chili House, the selection of a wide variety of Asian foods served in a neat and friendly setting.
